Mounts (parvat) are the raised, fleshy pads of the palm. Each is named after a planet and linked with that planet's qualities. A well-developed mount suggests the quality is strong in your life; a flat one suggests it is quieter.
The seven mounts
| Mount | Indian name | Location | Qualities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jupiter | Guru parvat | Below the index finger | Ambition, leadership, confidence |
| Saturn | Shani parvat | Below the middle finger | Responsibility, wisdom, solitude |
| Sun (Apollo) | Surya parvat | Below the ring finger | Creativity, charm, recognition |
| Mercury | Budh parvat | Below the little finger | Communication, business, wit |
| Venus | Shukra parvat | Base of the thumb | Love, warmth, enjoyment of life |
| Moon | Chandra parvat | Outer base of the palm | Imagination, intuition, travel |
| Mars | Mangal parvat | Middle edges of the palm | Courage and self-control |
Reading the mounts
- Prominent: the quality is strong and active. A full Mount of Venus, for example, suggests warmth and a love of good food, music and company.
- Balanced: the quality is present in a healthy way.
- Flat: the quality is quieter. A flat Mount of Jupiter can suggest someone who prefers to support rather than lead.
Mounts are always read together with the lines. A strong Mount of Mercury plus a long little finger, for example, is a classic sign of a persuasive communicator.
Can a photo show mounts?
Partly. Mounts are easiest to judge by touch or with side lighting. In a photo, good light from one side helps show the shape. Rekha reads mounts only when the photo shows them clearly and otherwise lists them as not visible.
Combinations palmists look for
- Strong Jupiter and Sun mounts: ambition with creative flair; often found in people drawn to leadership in creative fields.
- Strong Venus with a deep heart line: warmth and loyalty in relationships.
- Strong Moon with a curved head line: imagination, storytelling and intuition.
- Strong Mercury with a long little finger: persuasive communication and business sense.
- Flat Saturn with a faint fate line: a flexible, self-directed career path.
Displaced mounts
Sometimes a mount sits closer to a neighbour than usual, for example the Mount of Jupiter leaning towards Saturn. Palmists read this as the two qualities blending, such as ambition tempered by caution.
